Fundraising is hard. Asking people for money is hard.
But here is the thing; I’m not raising money for myself. I am raising money for the people I come in contact with. I am raising money to serve Jesus in 11 different countries. I am raising money to share his love with everyone we come in contact with.
When people see the price tag on this trip I get all sorts of responses. I realize that a trip costing almost $20,000 dollars is unfathomable to some. Yes, this trip may be costing me a pretty penny, but this trip is worth every one of those pennies.
When people tell me that I’m doing more harm than good or that my money could best be used in other places, it is so easy to become discouraged, frustrated, and angry.
I’m learning that not everyone is going to understand and agree with my decision to pack up my life for a year and follow the Lord wherever he leads me and that’s okay. I know full well that this money could be spent feeding hungry children here in the states and those suffering in remote villages in Africa. This money could go to things that people see being far more beneficial. But, each of these organizations that help feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and heal the sick had to start somewhere. Every idea starts with one person who wants to implement change. Every organization has to start from the bottom. It takes both time and money to get something like this off the ground. Yes, the end goal is amazing, but I like to look at the now. The journey means so much more to me than the destination. Feeding the hungry and healing the sick are great things, but at the end of the day being able to spread Jesus means so much more. My squad and I have the opportunity to bring Jesus to 11 different countries, how crazy is that? If we only have one person we meet accept Christ, I will consider this journey a win in my book.
So yes, fundraising is hard and asking people for money hard, but we aren’t told it was going to be easy. We know full well that there will be bumps in the road, but that’s the price it takes to follow Jesus. At the end of the day, serving Jesus is worth every single penny.
My next fundraising goal is $10,000. Will you partner with me on this journey and help me reach this goal? Every little amount makes a difference, pennies and all. Thank you for loving me and supporting me in this new season of my life.
