I can say a lot has happened to me over the last two days. My last week here in Malaybalay seems a little unreal as I try to fit in activities such as seeing friends, working in the field, playing with the kids at the orphanage and so much more.

On Tuesday, I was invited into a mathematics classroom at the highschool. When I got there, I found out that it was Teachers Day. The students came into the class singing songs and thanking Ms Mary Ann. Since there was no class, Ms Mary Ann gave us a sample lesson with the students that were there and then she gave us a tour around the high school. Then we went to an assembly that honored all the teachers. The students sang songs and danced for the teachers and gave them thanks for the things that they do. I enjoyed my time out at the high school.

Wednesday morning, my team went out to some waterfalls. It was supposed to be a relaxing morning enjoying nature and swimming at the falls but the morning actually turned into quite the event. We hiked for about a half an hour, took pictures and then hiked some more and climbed down so we were at the base of the falls. Once we were all down, 7 guys came out of nowhere and they start heading in the direction that we were going to go. So we decided to go the opposite direction from them since no one knew these guys. After a little bit, these men started to come towards us and immediately our two guides started to get on there phones calling there friends.

We had no clue if these guys had bad intentions or not but we did not want to take any chances. While our guides were on there phones, we really had no idea what was going on, basically we knew that we were going to wait for friends of our guides to show up. We found out that the mayor had been called and they were going to send out the police to make sure that we would be able to get out of the falls safely.

More details to come….
