“Children are a gift from the
Lord;
they are a reward from Him”

We’ve
moved! On Wednesday, my team packed up and moved about an hour or so down the
road to Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. The atmosphere in general is
more alive, which I love. The next two weeks we will be staying at The Timothy
House and doing similar ministry work…
Our
time here has been challenging in a lot of ways. Some of the places we go, we
are not allowed to say we are Christians or missionaries, for safety reasons.
Everywhere we look there are altars, statues, temples, and incense burning to
false gods. I instantly think of Isaiah where it talks about the people
worshiping things they’ve made with their own hands. How could the creation
ever be better than the creator? It’s just doesn’t make sense and you can see
the lost desperation in their eyes. I’ve never been in a place where I had to
conceal my faith so much due to the heavy Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhists
population. It’s interesting because it makes me think about my actions twice
as much. I might be the only Jesus these people ever see. Realizing this, I
feel the need to step up my game a little more!
we had the privilege of going to The Association for Mentally Handicapped
Children in Butterworth. Instantly I fell in-love with the kids here. I never
realized I had such a soft spot for disabled kids. There was one little man
with down syndrome that stole my heart, Ang Keng Chuan. He was shy at first,
but he warmed up after we had been there awhile. He had the cutest smile and it
was easy to pull one out of him by singing or giving him a kiss on the cheek!

also met a boy, Wouy. The doctors discovered a large tumor in his brain just
weeks after he was born. He has had a few surgeries but still struggles in a
lot of areas. One of his legs is significantly shorter than the other, so he is
not able to walk. We met him while he was in physical therapy. He had such a
sweet spirit about him….

team got to go with all the children to lunch and help them eat. Once we pulled
out our cameras we made friends much quicker! They loved being photographed and
taking pictures. Since the school was not a Christian organization, we had to
be very careful about what we said. Some of the women that worked there were
Christians, so we were able to pray over a few of the kids. Our trip here has
been the highlight of ministry so far and I wish I could spend every day with
these kids! Recently my mom has decided to start volunteering at Challenged Child in Gainesville, GA. They run
a similar center that is for the disabled. The passion must run in the family!
I am so exited that she is going to be able to work with kids like I met today!
Maybe
this is an area of ministry that God is placing on my heart for when I get
back? Definitely something to pray about!

I’ll try to get a new cribs video up soon!
