Every day I am falling more and more in love with the beautiful children of this small orphanage in Kenya. I am reminded that over and over, The Bible mentions serving and loving the orphan. We, as the church, the Body of Christ, are responsible for serving the least of these. We are responsible for the orphans and we are to take serving and loving them seriously.

James 1:27 says this :

“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this : to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

Why the orphan and the widow?

Ken Wytsma, in his book “Pursuing Justice” says it like this,

“Looking after orphans and widows – those who require everything and seem to give nothing in return – is the very picture of God’s love for us. It wasn’t about God needing anything from me – His delight came in the giving, not the receiving. God’s love for me sacrificed, forgave, and endured all things, not because I was a good return on His investment, but because God’s love is pure. And that meant it wasn’t about what I could get so much as what I had already been given.

Pure religion, then, is a reflection of God’s love.”

It’s not about us. It’s not about God needing anything from us. It’s about His enduring, sacrificial and graceful love that He has freely given us. So, we are to extend that to others.

We are to extend that love to the orphans.

Pastor Stephen and his wife, Jane, have given their lives to extending the love of God towards the orphan in Kenya. They provide shelter, plenty of food, an incredible education, a loving family environment and most importantly, a knowledge that they are valued by Jesus Christ and called into a relationship with Him. They have given their lives to the vulnerable – those who are unable to care for themselves.

This family has just enough to get by and does not have the finances for anything “extra”. The kids are quickly growing out of their clothes and only have 1-2 pairs each, excluding their school uniform.

As Jesus calls us to love the orphan – will you please consider donating a small portion of money to provide clothing for these sweet children? Clothing is very inexpensive here in Africa. With less than $25 per child we will be able to buy multiple outfits, shoes and a pair of pajamas for each child.

Jesus calls us to be His hands and feet among the vulnerable, so let us, as His church, rise up to loving those that the world so often neglects.

“Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.”

Isaiah 1:17

“Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?

Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?”

Isaiah 58:6-7

Remember that it isn’t about what we do for Jesus.
It’s about what He did for us.
So let us love, likewise.

Sweet Aroma will be going into town to buy clothing for the children on Sunday, April 21. Please make your donation HERE.

Thank you for your love, faith and commitment to making the name of Jesus known throughout the world!
