I know what you’re thinking … Sugar Daddy ministry is not a real thing…

So recently R squad hopped continents from Madagascar to Malaysia.  We are paring up with another squad (Fusion) multiple times in the year, this being the first time and day two of debrief we did a scavenger hunt with them through the city of KL. So we break off into teams and take off on our journey where we decided to maneuver through the pubic transportation system and head to the mall.

Quickly into our journey we start doing some of the tasks on the list to “dance with a stranger” and we meet a gentleman by the name of Seyid who is so excited to see the five of us and demanded that we go to get a coffee with him. As we walked with him he was continually shaking hands with everyone he passed. He appeared to be the local celebrity of the mall bringing joy with him wherever we walked.

After insisting on buying all of us starbucks of our choice we sit down and he starts to tell us his life story and why he moved to Malaysia from Canada 20 years prior, he is a pretty amazing business man working/ owning multiple companies. That day that we stumbled upon him was his 77th birthday and also the first time that he ever got to celebrate one with anyone. My heart was filled with joy as I heard that because we got to be there for him.

After our joy filled coffee date Sy asked us to take us to the restaurant that he owns just down the street to provide lunch. After some hesitation since it was getting later in the afternoon, we agreed to go and walked just a few minutes to his place of business. He sat us at a family sized eating area and copious amounts of food were brought to us as a gift from him. The food was amazing and the company of Sy was even better. After lunch we decided to part ways with him and wished him a happy birthday by singing to him in the middle of the restaurant.

I do not believe that our group of ladies and him were brought together by chance. The Lord was present in every step of that adventure. Sy was able to bless us that day even with more than we were able to bless him with our company. As much as we joked that day that he was like a “sugar daddy”, he was truly a blessing. We were simply mind blown that the adventure we had been on happened in the first place. We were able to build a true and genuine relationship with him. I filled up that day with joy and felt blessed to share a day with a 77 year old man who really needed a friend, turns out we needed one too.. The Lord put him in our path that day and showed me how simple friendship can exemplify Christ’s love to others and how when you ask the Lord to “do something cool that day…” he REALLY does.

Stay blessed, Em.
