I am seeing poetry.
You think I’m inebriated
but the truth is I’m just intoxicated by the dictionary
I am seeing poetry right before my eyes
I feel it coursing through my veins
I hear it tap, tap, tapping on my eardrums
I smell it in the air like smoke from chimneys at Christmastime
I can taste it on my tongue
Its sweet like honey and spicy as Indian curry
I found it here
Lying in sidewalk cracks and spaces between sheets on makeshift tin roofs
There’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be
Than here
Finding the pieces of my heart I didn’t know were missing
Feeling stories wisp through the air as I meet the tired eyes of a widowed woman.
There’s no place I’d rather be
Than here
discovering the unsayable words found in granite dumps and tarp-walled illegal churches
There’s no place I’d rather be
Than here
Standing in a puddle formed through the combination of me and the sunshine
As I dig through souls to find the lovely in every one.
There’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be
Than here
Stabbing my heart with a pen to pull out the image-painting verbiage that is inside
Because it is beating poetry in all shapes and sizes
The world was built on lyrical commandments
That were God’s heart song
A flawless melody consistent, tried and true
It is well, it is well with my soul
Because He has been seeing and singing that it is good since the beginning of biological time
He is asking me to be His harmony
To breath out notes only I can vibrate
He wants me to match myself with other vocalists carrying complimentary ranges
The melody is already perfect
No addition necessary
Only He desires my flawsome vocalism
So, I am seeking out His sacred stanzas and sheeted staffs
In every crevice of language and spirituality
I am searching for His poetry
To sing until my lungs give out
Because
There’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be
Than here in His love, here in His love.
His music is divine and
I am seeing His poetry.
