With each step I watched the dust circle around my foot as we walked through the African bush. I looked up as I was towards the end of a 6 person single file line. We had just walked through someone’s back yard and I looked out to see the dirt path that winded through the tall grass and weeds around the pond. If I didn’t know, most of the big animals were in the game parks; I would have expected a lion to come pouncing out of the weeds. We had just begun our 2.5 mile walk to the beach where we were going to pray for a family and preach the Word. I noticed that all we had with us was water and a Bible. It really made me think of the simplicity of missions and ministry. So often, we make it more difficult than it seems. We get caught up in buildings, denominations, organizations, politics, expectations, etc and often times that gets in the way. We were armed with the Spirit and the Word of the Lord. We hiked until we reached a family from the church that wanted prayer. At this particular home, nobody was sick, but they wanted prayer for their family. We prayed for them and continued on until we reached another family where Spano preached about keeping oil in our lamps. The people in this area are extremely thirst for the Word of the Lord. We found out that the village has about one Bible for every 10 people and not everyone can read. In just three days, we gave over 12 messages. The people are thirsty to hear the Good News and stories from the Bible. We spent our time walking between homes and the church preaching and praying. It was so neat to be a part of this ministry and experience the simplicity that we can have in it!
