So lately I have been in a whirlwind of emotions which include rejoicing, excitement, the sadness of saying goodbye, and being overwhelmed by the blessings and prayers of my local community of Christ that I am leaving behind for a while.
Here are a few… the "littles" I nannied for and my BFFL!!!
I am truly humbled by the God that I get to serve, and so I want to give Him all the glory for a simple yet wonderful blessing I received from Him this past week in the middle of all the farewells. Now for this particular story to make any sense I am going to have to back up to my high school years.
When I started getting serious about this whole “follow Jesus” thing, God had placed a very wonderful peer in my life that truly invested in me to help me follow His ways. It was the first person to show me how to really dig in to the word of God and how to apply it to my life. I really looked up to this girl and I hung onto her words like glue. I vaguely remember but one day as we were talking over coffee she mentioned the World Race to me. I researched it, read about it, watched videos, prayed about it, and it became an amazing dream. My age of 15 and the fact I was in high school was all that held me back. (The World Race requires racers to be 21). Once I even gave a speech about it for a Leadership class. Well a few months later a lady remembered my frequent mentioning of this race and told me that a future world racer was going to be the guest speaker at a local Rotary meeting. I was invited to attend, and this is where my story begins…
That racer was a girl named Kayla Griffin, and I was so excited to hear her testimony on how she was preparing for the race. I had the chance to speak to her briefly. Soon she left for this amazing venture and I prayed for her and followed her blogs when I got the chance.
Anyways high school went on for me, and God seemed to be moving in a different direction in my life that did not include the race. It was not until a few years later when God broke my heart in Taiwan that He laid the World Race on my heart once again.
So now fast forward to this past week… like 10 days before I actually left the country for 11 months. Im sitting at Starbucks with some amigos of mine were doing a last minute coffee run and who do you suppose I run into. Well God sure has a sense of humor because that night me and Kayla got to schedule a coffee date. We talked for hours about the race and some of the really amazing things that God did through Kayla on this trip. It got me all the more stoked for this next year to see all the crazy things God has stored up His sleeve. One thing however that I feel compelled to share tonight is a quote from a pastor that Kayla shared with me…
“A BLESSING IS ANYTHING THAT BRINGS YOU ON YOUR KNEES BEFORE THE LORD”…
This quote is exactly what I needed to hear because lately I have felt very blessed and have met God on my knees for that. I know that probably sometime on the race I will meet my King on my knees again but it won’t be because of feeling of joy but rather feeling of brokenness for the lost. This is still a blessing because it is drawing me closer to my king.
My prayer for tonight is that what ever the reason you are meeting God on your knees; whether it is a healing that needs to be done, a loss, or a simple time of praise…..all of this is a blessing because God is drawing you closer to Himself. Pursuing you. Pursuing me.
Everything that happens in your life is preparing you for things to come- He is in control.
