What color is this? I don’t know how many times I asked that in just one hour today. This month teammate Sarah and I are teaching an English class to the village kids in the early afternoons. Yesterday we worked on “My name is…,” “His name is…,” and “Her name is…”

This blog is not going to be spiritual…no lesson to be learned, I just wanted to share with you what I am doing. There are about 12 (give or take a couple each day) kids that come to learn English. Every morning my team cleans up our sleeping area, piling our sleeping pads and pillows in another room. We are sleeping in their classroom, so it’s a daily must.

The children are precious. The girls’ hair has to be kept very short for school, which starts back up the week after next. They are so well behaved and just love to have fun. Each day they come in go to the shelf and get their notebook and pen. They sit in a circle and they write their names on their nametags for the day. Yesterday was the first day and so they wrote all their names in Thai. Thankfully our Alaskan native host was with us to translate them all into English. Today, most of them remembered how to write it that way.

It is so much fun teaching people new things, perhaps that’s why I loved coaching gymnastics. A child’s face lights up when they finally accomplish a new task, and those expressions are what make everything so worth it.

I wanted to share some pictures with you of the faces I am honored to spend time with every day.
