About Me:

Hmm, me, how does one define themself to others. I guess I will just start with the basics and see where that leads.

My name is Ellen and I am 24 years old and I currently live in South Florida. I have lived in the same county my whole life, except when I was two months old my parents moved to Texas to join Wycliffe Bible Translators. There were only three kids in my family at that time, until my younger brother finished us off at four two years later. I have an older sister (the oldest) and an older brother also. We moved back to Florida on my first birthday and we have been here ever since. My younger brother (now 21) and I still live at home with our parents and my mom’s dad. My sister lives in Mississippi with her husband and six kids…the best (ask anyone) kids ever. My older brother has 1.5 years left in the Army and then he gets to settle down with his new wife since Easter of this year.

My family’s one and only true sport has been gymnastics. My sister started one year after watching the Olympics, and then over the next couple of years the rest of us joined. I was the awkward, not-so-talented one of the family. I did the sport for fun, knowing that I did not have the natural talent like my other three siblings. I was fine with that, which pretty much sums up my personality. I am very complacent. I was the quiet child, the “goody two-shoes,” and whatever other titles, including “mom and dad’s favorite” that my siblings could come up with. I was the black sheep. Even in my walk with the Lord, that’s how I have been in my house.

My Faith:

When I was 4 or 5 (can’t remember exactly) my siblings and I were all playing “Sunday school” in our brothers’ room. My sister, being the oldest and leader, was the teacher. She got to the part where she asked who wanted to ask Jesus into their heart. My older brother and I both raised our hands. We all went out to our parents to tell them, but they told me that I was too young. They proceeded to pray with my brother in the living room and so I went back into my brothers’ room. I leaned against the wall with my forehead on my hands and right there, alone from my family, prayed to ask Jesus into my heart.

My parents have always been my examples of Christians in my life. As a family growing up, we read the bible every night (taking turns each night), prayed together and of course went to church every Sunday. My dad played the Saxophone on the Praise Teams at each church while my mom worked with the kids. I grew up with bible verses as correction and constant biblical reminders from both parents. I am thankful that God placed me in such a family. Today, I find myself using those phrases and verses/morals for other people.

My Life:

I’ll try to make this quick. My parents opened Gymnastics World when I was 12. They wanted a business and figured that sticking with the sport we were all in just made sense. I started coaching my old 3yro class shortly after opening and have been coaching ever since. The gym closed after 11 years last summer and my mom and I still coach at a local gym. I guess that’s how my passion for kids grew so strong. My mom, brother and I have also been volunteering in the elementary department of our church since 2001. I love teaching kids about the bible. To watch them learn stories, memorize scriptures, and sing praise and worship to our King is (in my opinion) one of the best and most innocent things to witness.

Just under a year ago I began working at Chick-fil-A and am now a trainer there. I love it, and am so grateful for the lessons I have learned while being there. I started there while taking time off from coaching so I could focus more on missions and figuring out/listening to where God wanted me. You will find more about that story on the blog about how I got on this mission trip.

I didn’t plan on making this so long; guess I have a tendency to ramble. You are welcome to tell me to “zip it” at any time during the next year.

Amazingly though, one of my greatest attributes (I’ve been told) is my ability to listen. I will listen to the good and the bad and give advice or just a hug, or BOTH!

I am so excited to get to know each and every one of you and you are welcome to ask me ANYTHING! No question is off-limits for me. All of my experiences have turned for the good of the Lord and I am grateful for them all.
