How long will you forget me Lord? Forever? How long will you hide from me? How long must I worry and feel sad in my heart all day long? (Psalm 13:1)
There are times in our lives when even though we know God, even though we believe in Jesus, God feels like he has abandoned us. I know that there have been times in my life when I feel like God loves everyone in the world, but me. I think, if he loved me, I wouldn’t be feeling the great emptiness and pain that I feel.
This morning, I walked through this Psalm with the woman at the “big” prison. We talked about how even though we feel like the Lord has left us, he hasn’t. We looked at the story of the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. After 12 years of being sick and alone, she was healed. She was healed because she believed that Jesus’ power could heal her.
We asked the women at the prison to take their pain to the Lord. We asked them to believe that the Lord can heal them. We gave them time to seek the Lord, and afterward Jenny asked them to share what the Lord had told them.
One woman stood up with tears in her eyes and said, “Even though no one visits me, and I am all alone, I know that I Jesus really does love me.”
Several other woman stood up, and shared similar stories. As I looked around the room, many of the woman were crying. I moved to the floor to hold one ladies hand, and she began to weep.
I have been praying that God’s love would move from a head knowledge to a truth that penetrates these women’s hearts. Today I left the prison encouraged because these women are opening up their wounded hearts, and they are allowing God’s love to start healing them.
Pray that as we return to the prison, that God will continue to use us to reach these women. Pray that God’s truth will reach the inner deeps are their hearts.
“I trust in your love. My heart is happy because you saved me. I sing to the Lord because he has taken care of me.” (Psalm 13: 5-6)
