So this weekend, I went to DC to visit some friends from college, which was amazing.  On the Friday evening bus, I was keeping up with the Stanley Cup final (go Pens) and taking care of some email while brainstorming my next blog entry on Emerson, my dear HP Pavilion notebook.  (You love the name.  Don’t lie.)  I didn’t use my computer most of the weekend until I was back on the bus on Sunday.  I started up AIM and opened Firefox.  AIM started up and chugged along.  Firefox…not so much.

Once I got back to my room Sunday night, I tried again with no success.  Monday I spent two and a half hours on the phone with HP technicians (some more helpful than others) to figure out what went wrong.  Finally, the rep said that I needed to perform a system recovery.  For those of you who don’t know, a system recovery is the apocalypse of personal computers.  It resets the computer to factory condition, wiping the hard drive and (hopefully) eliminating the problem that couldn’t be fixed otherwise.

Your computer on system recovery.  Not cool.

Good news: my computer works again.
Bad news: my entire hard drive was wiped out.

I’ll be back to post once I figure out how to restore my files from the backup discs I made, but until then, here’s a quick support update.  I’m still in need of $8,585 to reach my goal, and I must have $8,280 in my account before leaving for Ireland in August.  The support coaches are going to start contacting us more frequently about our support raising efforts and progress, so I’m hoping to have good news for them when they come a-calling.

Hopefully I’ll have something more substantial to post by the end of the week, but until then, go read my teammates’ blogs:
