“So…what are you going to be doing on this trip?”

Every future racer has heard this question endless times. I have gotten pretty good at the answer. I spill out a scripturally-based description of serving the least of these and going where God leads – which is certainly the basis of what we are called to do. However, sometimes I think I avoid sharing about the other things that I am excited about out of a sense of selfishness or guilt. I’ve been reminded several times this week that God knows the desires of my heart. If God knows the desires of my heart, then it shouldn’t be surprising that the opportunities that I will have this year are right in line with what God has laid out for me. Even the seemingly “non-ministry” related activities. So in this post I just want to doodle out a list of the little things that I might experience that I am SO excited for.

I can’t wait to:

  • Drink chai in India.
  • Ride elephants in Thailand.
  • Snuggle babies…wherever.
  • Split my headphone output 5 ways and rock out to N*Sync.
  • Find the perfect hammock trees.
  • Eat weird food, and then search for it everywhere back in the US.
  • Hold hands in Africa.
  • Worship around a campfire.
  • Live in Acts-based community.
  • See an animal in the wild that I’ve only seen in a zoo.
  • Smell something super strange, and then use my lavender oil to cover it up.
  • Ditch the things I think I need.
  • Share.
  • Send a postcard to my grandparents.
  • Wear out my Chacos.
  • Hear multiple languages pray together.
  • Do something crazy (shark dive).
  • Dance in the rainy season.
  • Teach English, and sound ridiculous trying the native language.
  • Pull out my month 6th bag and find clean underwear.
  • Share the stories of people I meet.
  • Explore.

God is in the business of giving and fulfilling dreams. My journey looks different from any other racer’s. Your journey looks different from anyone around you, too. God sees the desires of your heart. He made you perfectly and will provide your every need…and sometimes every wish. Don’t give up on the dreams that God has planted in you, even if they were placed there a really long time ago. His timing is perfect.
