I never thought I’d live in the south in my entire life and well, here I am. I am currently typing this staring out my window watching autumn come through. (Hey San Diego, apparently, there are seasons! Who would’ve known?) The seasonal change is exciting because it’s also a new beginning and season in my own life!

Anyways, too say I have few moments of culture shock is an understatement. They happen quite frequently. Here are some highlights…

-Apparently I have a, “Hi my name is Ma’am” sticker on my forehead.

-I have appropriately budgeted sweet teas into my finances.

-Chicken and Waffles is not to be heard of in the south. Roscoes, you rock!

-Wal-Mart = Mexico. Gainesville has a HIGH hispanic population. I wish I paid attention in those three years of spanish classes.

-I’ve only seen two asians, they both work at Panera. It’s like hide’n’seek!

-Why are Californians the only ones that know how to drive properly? mind blowing.

-When driving past the “mall,” don’t blink or you’ll miss all of it, aka JCPennys and Sears.

-If I got a dollar for every Waffle House i’ve seen, my support would be completely raised by now.

-If I got a dollar for every Church i’ve seen, i’d be a millionaire.

-People are reeeaally friendly. I’ve given my number out twice to strangers. Theresa, a Wal-mart employee, and well… Ron, the mattress store salesman.

-McDonalds’ drive thrus have two lanes! But it still takes double the time.

I’ve been here for 5 days and I already have a pretty big list. I’m sure there will be plenty more to share. However, on a serious note, I am settled in my new apartment and everything is great. I begin my apprenticeship on Monday and the “bossman” says we are diving right in full-speed. Please be continuing to pray for this time of transition. I can’t wait to share stories of amazing things God is going to do here!

If you’d like to receive email updates of when I post a new blog just click the Follow My Blogs! link on the left and type in your email.

Also, I’m still currently looking for monthly ministry partners. $10, $30, $100, whatever number I’d love to work bringing freedom to the nation of Kenya with you. You can donate by clicking the “Support Me!” tab on the left, then type in my name Elizabeth Martin.

PS I love you all so much. Life wouldn’t be as amazing without you people in it. So thank you!
