Have you ever stood outside and marveled at the stars? I don’t mean just wishing on a star kind of gazing or looking through a telescope and finding the constellations, but truly marveling at the vast blanket of twinkling specs in the heavens above. We all get caught up on the business and happenings of life that we forget the beauty and simplicity of gazing into the night. Because there is a difference in marveling and recognizing how ridiculously awesome God is in the stars and just finding the Big Dipper. When you look up and come to realize and/or remember that God created it all it is truly mind blowing.

Picture this: standing in the yard feeling an ever slight breeze, fireflies flickering on your right and left, a rich back drop of black expanse with shiny specs of glitter and the moon’s light outlining the tall, thin row of trees before you. A still night clear of all the clouds from the previous days. This is what I walked out to on my trek to the bathroom here on Challenge Farm in Kitale, Kenya. I was speechless at the beauty that lay above me. In that very moment of stillness and quiet (minus the barking dogs) I was very aware of my smallness and His bigness. It’s easy to get caught up in ourselves, our lives, our doings, and with the things surrounding us. But in that moment I realized how life is happening all the time somewhere. Life is always happening, constantly changing and in motion. I pictured in that second, home. How I’ll be home in one month surrounded by the beauty and preciousness of things I once took for granted just as I had done with the stars. At times I have taken for granted the beauty He gives me every day. Life. Breath. Family. Friends. Love. Jesus. In a simple and small way I was reminded of how much God is in control of EVERYTHING. There is not one thing that He has left untouched, unnoticed, or neglected. It may seem that we are too small, too insignificant to Him, that our problems are incomparable to the severe problems happening to others. That our worries or stresses don’t compare to the wars and devastation seen on T.V. But that is quite the opposite. As much detail as God has taken in the stars to make them sparkle and to bring us, a people light years away, joy and light; that is how God created us to be. We may be small in the grand scheme of the world but we each sparkle with His light with a purpose to bring joy and light to someone. He notices our every step. He knows and regards our every doing and happening as a grand event deserving of His fullness. Which is exactly what He gives us. His everything. Don’t be too focused on things that you forget His working in your heart and in your life.

Go out and marvel at the twinkling stars and feel His presence wrapping you in His arms. Feel His precious love and specific care and attention to your life.
