Yup…..well almost had a shot with Apa. Apa is a man from the village that we met along with his wife our first week here and it was his 90th birthday. We showed up sans interpreter to sing him Happy Birthday. We thought we’ll sing him the Happy Birthday song then be on our way since we can’t communicate too well with their no English and our very very limited Hungarian. Yeah well he had other plans. He invites us in and we sing again and we try to talk and gesture our way through a conversation and then he turns the TV on, he was trying to kill time until his wife came back from the market. When she showed up we sung again and took pictures of them and with them. He then reaches for the shot glasses and the Palinca (90proof alcohol/moonshine) I took a whiff and Oh My Gosh that was STRONG, I would have been stumbling on the busy highway on our way home, not a good thing. We tried our best to explain the reasons as to why we couldn’t drink his “only taken out for very special occasions” drink. He was a little upset at first but we joked around and he quickly got over it. But he still wanted to offer us his best something so he goes into his fridge and brings us the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted. It just shows their generosity, and it hasn’t only been them it’s been every home we’ve gone into to pray with. They are so generous with their time, home, and everything. Although we couldn’t really understand everything that was said it didn’t matter because God was present in that place. He guided us and brought joy into that home and into our time. He blessed us with a good time with Apa and his wife and we really enjoyed his 90th birthday with him. God is so good, in the big and in the little!
