Yup folks you heard it right, I got married my last Thursday in Jinotepe. I married an elderly man named Pedro I met in the nursing home that was one of our ministry sites. He didn’t actually ask me or give me an option but just kissed my hand and informed me of my new last name, SevillaJ It was such a good time meeting so many men and women who have lived such great lives and are filled with so many stories. I got to talk politics (which I tend to stay away from but couldn’t) and life with Domingo. Domingo is confined to his bed but still keeps a very lively and energetic attitude. Super cool dude.
Despite the 45min walk in the heat, I very much enjoyed that day of ministry. I actually wasn’t too excited for it at first because of the walk there and because I didn’t know what to expect. When I think of a nursing homes back in the states I think of a dreary kind of place. This place had a bit of that because well some people are just waiting to die or can’t express themselves, but it was actually a nice place with lots of green and plenty of staff to attend to the people living there. The walk back was a little cooler because it started to sprinkle but then it was just humid and this California girl does not fare well in humidity. So it was very nice getting home and out of the sun.
The nursing home was not the only ministry that I was well not “too enthused” about was praying for the sick in the hospitals. Yes I am very well aware that it literally says to pray for the sick in the bible but peeps back home will tell you I’m not that fond of hospitals. Hello! You get sick going to hospitals, and I don’t like how they smell and there’s blood and stuff. Which is why I did not go into any kind of medical profession, I stuck to communications thank you very much. But yes you guessed it there was definitely a change of heart there. It actually became my favorite ministry for the month. Still not fond of the smell but, to bring words that God is giving me that will bring hope to the sick and their families was so good. My favorite wing to pray in was the women and newborns. I was always one that wasn’t too keen on being with babies and kids but I loved being there seeing these little miracles from God. Yes miracles because when you actually think of all the obstacles eggs and sperm go through to become a baby you know God has to have His hand in there somewhere. My failed goal though, well mine and Whitney’s, was to name a baby. Which name you ask, well the most beautiful of course….Whitney Elizabeth! Uh yeah that name didn’t catch on to any of the mothers, they just smiled politely and looked awayJ Ah well hopefully our day will come some day in the next 8 months;)
