Many people confuse the World Race with the Amazing Race. When I correct their mistake, they seem pretty bummed. But I get to tell them, “Oh trust me. This is so much better than the Amazing Race!”
So what is The World Race?
The World Race is a program through the Christian non-profit organization, Adventures in Missions. And as they put it, ” It is a journey to 11 countries in 11 months to serve “the least of these” while amongst real and raw community. It facilitates discipleship through the process of discovering into the abundant life He promised. It births partnerships with ministries around the world. It requires Luke 10-like faith.”
In other words: Jesus talks about leaving everything behind, following Him with just the clothes on our backs, and going from town to town sharing the gospel with anyone who will listen. So for 11 months, my squad and I will travel to 11 different countries, reaching out to the least of those, and deliver hope through the message of Christ to various communities around the world, all while living out of what we can carry in a backpack.
The goal? “We’re calling you out of your comfort zone and giving you exposure to what God is doing in the world before you commit to the American dream. Because it’s not about you, it’s about the Kingdom.”
So…
I get to live in 11 different countries around the world, and experience the culture of many different people, all why sharing who Jesus is by simply LOVING THEM! And I get to eat their crazy food. Fried tarantula anyone?
I get to be a servant of God for 11 months, doing what He calls me to do, whenever He calls me to do it, with no prize for me at the end other than the complete joy of seeing peace flood the lives of those who were hurting so deeply but found their hope in Jesus Christ. Just like me.
I get to share with people how Jesus has given me SO much hope for my future, and how I find rest in Him.
I get to sing Hallelujah, a word that God has made universal, alongside people who don’t speak the same language as me.
I get to slow down, and cherish every moment of every day because I am completely surrendering myself to God.
The list goes on and on and on…..
These are all reasons why I am so humbled the God chose me for such a mission. I pinch myself sometimes just to make sure it’s real. And even though I know that the World Race is something special, and I get to do all of the things I mentioned above, plus more, I really have no idea what to expect. But I do know that it’s going to be an amazing World Race.
