I had an AWESOME
experience this past week when I got to do this insane,
cross-it-off-the-bucket-list,
once-in-a-lifetime-i-must-be-crazy-adventure.That’s right… I went cage diving
for GREAT WHITE SHARKS!

Of course Sharks have always been one of my greatest
fears. In fact I had trouble swimming in the ocean alone in Mozambique because
I was scared a shark would eat me and nobody would know! Well we found out that
the coast of South Africa is the absolute best place in the entire world to do
shark diving and we are here at the absolute peak of viewing season so why not,
right?? The official World Race saying is ‘Go BIG or go HOME!”

I was sure
I would pee my pants at the first sign of a dorsal fin in the water. By the
time we were on the boat I was not afraid of the sharks at all! (Probably
because I was too busy puking over the side of the boat). Yeah, I never did
manage to find my sea legs (I wasn’t alone). And remember, its WINTER here in
Africa so the water was FREEZING! It was kind of an out of body experience for
me…by the time I was in the water I was shaking from the cold and pretty
loopy from the dramamine. My legs were floating all over the cage in other
people’s faces and the captain said to me, “Put your legs on the bar like
I told you”. My only response to him was, “Are you kidding? I can’t
control my legs!”

So overall it was an exhilarating experience in a
nauseating, hypothermic sort of way 🙂 But I’m really glad I went! Here’s a
video of my adventure (sorry for the cheesy music again…blame it on limited media
sources overseas)

P.S. I posted 3 other blogs today as well if you’re interested 🙂 Thank you for joining me on the journey!
