Yesterday was my Half Birthday and I did it up big! Most people of course would not see the importance of celebrating HALF birthdays but I will use any and every excuse to celebrate… especially being away from home. You may remember on the original Alice in Wonderland they sang ‘A Very Merry Unbirthday to You”. The song says, “Now blow the candle out, my dear, and make your wish come true…a very merry UN birthday to YOU!” [My sister and I are definitely from the same mold, she is throwing a big ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’ at her house today just for the sake of celebrating!]

So on my half birthday when the clock struck midnight I donned a tinfoil crown and marched around singing as we ate chocolate treats (don’t worry…I know I’m a diva). In the morning I realized we should also celebrate Christmas in July so I put on Christmas carols and all of us sang for a couple hours (in the end it turned into a Disney sing-a-long as well). It was great therapy. We were busy making a few hundred key chains that said ‘Wait 4 Me’, which was for a teen abstinence concert we helped host last night. It was a great event, there were about 250 youth in Ocean View who committed to abstain from sex until marriage. (Which is a good start because South Africa has 6 million people living with HIV and AIDS— more than in any other country. They also have the highest rate of teen pregnancy). They asked me to be the emcee for the night which was quite interesting and I even did an abstinence rap in between performances. It was great because I also got to pray the salvation prayer with a girl names Michaela at the end of the night. All in all, it was truly an UNbirthday to celebrate!
