As I think of all the beautiful places I’ve been and sights I’ve
seen on the Race, I stand in awe of God’s glory. I watched a total lunar
eclipse the other night here in Mozambique and it was amazing! It was the
longest and darkest lunar eclipse of the century, lasting 100 minutes, and I
got to witness it
J The incredible thing is knowing that in order for
this to happen the sun, moon, and earth have to be aligned exactly. It’s really
a miracle when you think about it!

In Romans 1:20 the Apostle Paul says, “For since the creation of
the world God’s invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature- have
been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are
without excuse”.

I think of this year and picture all the images of God’s beauty
I’ve seen: the sun setting over the rice fields in India, the majestic
Himalayas of Nepal, the rolling green hills of Romania, the budding cherry
blossoms of Moldova, the waterfalls and shooting stars of Swaziland or the crashing waves here in
Mozambique…His handprint is everywhere.

This month I’ve been memorizing and meditating on Psalm 8, which
says:

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have
set your glory
above the heavens. From the lips of
children and infants you have ordained praise
 because of your enemies, to
silence the foe
 and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your
fingers,
 the moon and the
stars,
 which you have set
in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you
care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of
your hands;
 you put everything
under his feet:
all flocks and herds, and the beasts of
the field,
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of
the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

On our day off this weekend I walked along the ocean and found
starfish, crabs, sea anemones, and fish as the tide went out. I felt like a
little kid again looking for shells. I sat on the beach thinking how cool it is
that no matter where you go on earth, you feel right at home if God’s spirit is
with you. Psalm 139 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible…we had to learn
it in my spiritual disciplines class in college and I am relearning this month.
I recommend checking it out! Verse 7-10 says:

“Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast”.

I pray that today you would see God in the beauty of creation all around you!
