At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.” Luke 10:21

Today marked our final day of working at Sarah’s Covenant Homes, an orphanage in Ongole. Sarah is from the States but married an Indian man she fell in love with while here on a missions trip (don’t worry, that hasn’t happened to me, yet J ). She felt led by God to rescue the children with disabilities that were in a state orphanage of Andhra Pradesh; they were hidden away in a room because they weren’t likely to be adopted and were left in deplorable conditions, found sitting in their own waste. She rescued each one of them, over 80 in all, and now they are being well cared for full time. For more info or to donate go to: http://sarahscovenanthomes.org/

Many of these sweet children are blind, can’t walk, have epilepsy or autism, etc. They have internal problems and many obvious disabilities. It’s easy to look at them and simply see their afflictions, but they don’t even seem to know anything is wrong. Somehow they just seem to have limitless love and joy. I had the privilege of leading them in hours of song this week from the keyboard as well as playing, stretching their muscles, and just loving on them (actually more often than not, letting them love on us.)

It took some getting used to, I have never worked with special needs children before and from the moment we came climbing out of the van the first night we were bombarded with dozens of kids. It was definitely overwhelming to say the least and if you know me at all you know I love kids. God used them throughout the week to show me that when we serve them we are to treat them just like we would Jesus . This was the philosophy of Mother Theresa, whose biography I read this week… it seemed fitting while serving here in India. I was humbled by her incredible devotion to God and to dedication to ease the pain of the dying and suffering.  She said that each one was ‘Jesus in disguise’.

This 2 yr. old girl named Aloe has primordial dwarfism. She only weighs a few pounds but we loved her tons!

These three girls did everything together, they were so much fun!

This girl Wendy loved trying to say my name and by the end of the week had stolen my heart!

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’-Matthew 25: 37-40
