“What are you going to be doing after the Race?”
It has changed a little bit over the past few weeks.
Some of you may know that I have always been drawn to becoming a pilot. When I first started going to college at Metro I was actually enrolled in the aviation department. After failing a six-credit hour course, I decided that flight wasn’t for me. I changed my major to computer information systems because I knew it would be easier for me. I justified the change by saying that the program at Metro was focused on training commercial airline pilots and that I wanted no part of that.
Some of that is true, but really it was mainly an excuse to take the easy (and cheaper) road. I honestly thought it was crazy to go to college and learn about airplanes but never actually learn how to fly one, and I knew that I couldn’t afford the time or money to do both at the same time.
Anyway, God told me during the Race to go to flight school and pursue my dream and what I believe to be my calling to fly for Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF). I’ve done a little research and found my best option is to go to a flight academy. It’s a six month accelerated academy. I’ll fly six days a week and have no social life whatsoever.
Since MAF has pilots that fly in super remote areas and by themselves all around the world, there’s a lot of requirements to fly for them that most pilots don’t necessarily have to meet. In addition to the six-month academy, I need to have 12 credits of college-level Bible credits, my mechanics license and additional flight hours not earned in school.
That takes me to what God has told me this week. God told me two somewhat frightening things. First, He told me to trust Him for the funds for flight school. I couldn’t believe it. I mean I know that He can move people’s hearts to give away all that money, but it is certainly hard to trust that He will. Second, he told me that I should get the Bible credits first.
I applied to Colorado Christian University (CCU) a few days ago and was accepted in to their Adult Biblical Studies Certificate program, which is exactly what I need for the MAF requirement. I’ll start just a few weeks after I return with online classes. I’ve also started looking for a part-time job that will allow me to focus on the online classes as well as save and raise money for flight school. As soon as enough money has been raised, I’ll start the academy.
I know that if you’re reading this, you probably know me and maybe even helped me get to where I am today. I would love your support for this endeavor as well. It would be super duper awesome to have your support prayerfully! I’ve been constantly reminded over the past 11 months that the power of prayer is incredible. I also would really appreciate any financial support you may be able to provide. I know times are tough and that I am asking for a lot, but like I said, God is asking me to trust Him! I'll have more information later about specifics regarding the financial support.
If you’d like to talk about any of this, feel free to email me at [email protected] or send me a text or call me at 303-242-7246. I’d love to talk with you or meet up with you and go to lunch or coffee!
Thank you so much for all of the support and prayers and love and encouragement and everything else you’ve done for me over the past 11 months. I have been so fueled and felt so loved by all of you and it’s made this experience the amazing experience that it has been! All I can say is thank you!
