The World Race used to actually be more of a “race”.  Our leadership decided to bring that back to our squad during our last travel days.  We raced against other teams from El Salvador and Honduras to Nicaragua.  We had to accomplish several things along the way that were worth different point values.  It was a blast and we had a lot of fun as a team.  Anyway, we ended up winning the race and we were awarded $100 cash.

After finishing the crusade, we decided as a team that we needed a day of real rest.  We chose to use our $100 winnings to go to The Monkey Hut.

The Monkey Hut is a beautiful resort in Nicaragua right off of Laguna de Apoyo.  The laguna is a crater on top of a volcano that has been filled in.  It is the cleanest body of water in Central America.  It is absolutely beautiful.  We stayed in the dorm as a team, which was great.  They had wonderful food, including pizza!

They even have kayaks that can be taken out for free for two hours.  A bunch of us headed out the afternoon that we arrived.  It was so much fun.  We tipped each other over (OK – mainly Erin and I tipped each other over).  We had a wonderful time soaking up the beauty of the laguna.

It was a great day of rest that was very needed.  We had great conversation, grew closer as a team, and enjoyed each other’s company.  It’s off to debrief now and then to the Philippines!
