… I thought we were on a mission trip. This weekend we had the awesome privilege to go to Lake Atitlan as a squad. The leaders had a leadership training retreat on the other side of the lake and the rest of us had a retreat as well. Let me just tell you, we got the TREAT out of it for sure. This place was freaking beautiful. Let me back up a little bit…. Here's our view out of the bus on the drive in…

The lake has several small towns on the shores. Most of them can only be accessed by boat. Our bus took us to Panajachel which is the major hub for the lake. There we unloaded our stuff, and boarded the ferrys.
When we arrived at our destination, Santa Cruz La Laguna, we noticed our hostel right off the bat. We couldn't believe our eyes – it was right off-shore and it looked so beautiful!

We were greeted by a lovely staff who gave Shayna and I a tour and got the whole squad checked in. The rooms were beautiful but most of us didn't spend any time in them. We soaked up the fresh, usually windy, outside air, hiked the volcano, went cliff jumping, swam off the dock, or just hung out at the hostel. It was so great. We had some quality time with each other and some super quality time with God. It was incredible!
