It was early Sunday morning when we arrived here in Kenya.  We stayed in Nairobi for two nights, getting adjusted to the country and having an orientation to the culture while we were there.  It was great to spend another day with the whole squad before we split up for the month.

On Tuesday morning we left at about 7:30 for what we thought was going to be a five hour bus ride to our ministry location here in Siaya, but it actually turned out to be closer to ten.  It was not all that bad though; we got to see a lot of the country and stopped at a few towns along the way.

We were welcomed with open arms by Pastor Joseph and his family who we are staying with, once we got here.  They had a feast ready for us as soon as we got off the bus, making us feel right at home.  Since we have been here we have been planning out what we are going to do during the time in Siaya.  One week we are going to spend helping with evening worship services at the local church and trying to encourage some of the locals to attend. Another week we are going to have a Vacation Bible School for all the kids here in town.  It is great being blessed with a team of people with many different talents, especially musical because all the local people love to sing and dance.

It’s been really amazing how much they listen to and respect us here in Siaya.  Even though everywhere we go all the people stop and stare.  I’m kind of getting used to it already.  One thing they all want to talk about is Obama, since apparently his grandmother lives somewhere close to where we are.
