These past few days, there have been many ups and downs.
Up: Saturday morning we went to the beach. While at the beach Matthew and I noticed a
trail leading into the woods from one end of the beach. Barefooted and in swimsuits we decided to
follow the trail. The trail led us over a rickety bridge, past the snakes, and
past a lagoon before a great ascent. As
we walked we noticed we had to have been quite a ways above the water and that
the view from the top would be awesome, and right we were. We found ourselves at the very tip of the
island with an incredible view of both volcanoes and not a soul in sight. It was surreal. After a moment we decided to
climb/slide down to the massive rocks below. Getting soaked by the spray of the waves crashing against the rocks and
blown over by the wind, we were left in awe of what God has created.
sleep well.
Up: Sunday morning I
woke up…
Down: Only to feel bad again. Spent all of Sunday in bed.
Up: Felt better Sunday night.
volcanoes on the island, was a great hike and that at the top in the crater was
a lagoon that you could swim in. We had
wanted to go but it didn’t work out, but because it was our second to last day
at Cicrin, we were able to take 5 of the older boys to hike the volcano.

Down: Hiking the volcano, not fun. After about an hour of hiking we stopped and
rested to look at the view.
beautiful.

Down: However, we were informed that we still had about
three and a half hours to go to get to the top, and we quickly realized that
the rest of the hike would be through the jungle, muddy, and much steeper. We also quickly realized that we did not pack
enough water or food.
Down: My feet were completely submerged in mud and water
several times, but
Up: My Vasque Gor-Tex shoes kept my feet dry.
Down: We made it to the lagoon at top only to realize we
were too exhausted to swim and that we were in a cloud, which was cool for a
second, but you could not see anything so there were no beautiful views.
Up: Some hippy at the top gave me a couple slices of
pineapple. I now like freshly sliced
pineapple.
Down: The four hour hike back down. The whole volcano experience, wasn’t the
best; however,
Up: I did see monkeys in their natural habitat.
Down: This month I began to get a little discouraged,
questioning whether or not I am having any impact on anybody’s lives.
Down: Tuesday morning some clowns performed at Cicrin.
Up: One of the clowns encouraged me, reminding me of what
Jesus said, “That whatever you do unto the least of these you do unto me.”
Reminding me that regardless of any spiritual impact I have on people, simply making
the kids laugh is service to Christ.
Up: Tuesday night, they threw a going away fiesta for us
at Cicrin.
