This week we worked to construct the main walls of the
building and I learned that when there is not a Home Depot (or any hardware
store for that matter) nearby, you really can make do with what you’ve
got.

Early this week we were mixing up mortar and ran out of the
sand we were using. No biggie,
apparently the best dirt for mortar comes from the riverbed anyways; and there
happens to be a river just down the road a little way. So, the men from the
church and a few of us loaded up the truck and headed down to the river. Put on
some shorts, removed my shoes, and against the advice I had been given about
getting in rivers overseas, I hopped on in. After thoroughly looting the river we loaded up the truck and headed back.

When tools dull out, no biggie: just grab the grinder, plug
into the makeshift electrical socket, find someone without a finger loss fear,
and go to work on it.

Cutting cinder blocks with a skilsaw (that might be working
funny) and need a workstation? Just stack a few blocks on their side, crank it
up, and let the sparks fly as they burn holes through the clothing of those who
might be standing nearby(sorry Matthew).
