For the first week in Japan my team Same Same but Different got to spend the first week in Izumi at a church where we got to participate in all of their activities during the week in addition to hosting a few events as well.
Our first full day at the church they took us to see a small castle that was near the church.
On top of the castle there was a walk way that you could see the overview of the city.
One of the afternoons we made pizza and some pumpkin bread, then we had worship time with flags and a tambourine.
Then after lunch we got the opportunity to learn some origami and Japanese calligraphy from members of the church.
Some of the things that we did during this week at the church, we got to visit the local college and hang out with some of the students. We sang and passed out flyers at one of the train depots, and participated in two church services. (sadly I don’t have any pictures from any of these event or any of the other activities that we were involved in during that week).
On our last night at the church we had a party for anyone in the area to attend, we made taco soup, sang, played games, and made s’mores over candles.
