Our last full day in KL, Malaysia, I was invited to the roof of our hostel by Laura to join her and a few others to worship. But I couldn’t concentrate because in the distance behind the mosque was the beginning of a thunderstorm. I ran down to my room, grabbed my camera and dodged a few squad mates as I rushed back up to the roof. In my excitement I tried to rush the pictures. First they were all coming out really blurry. Then when I calmed down enough, I could get the fore-ground in focus, but I kept missing the lightning.
All around me my squad mates were worshiping, singing, and praying. Then came a clash of thunder and a bolt of lightning…missed it again. So I set my camera on the ledge and began to set my focus. With my camera down I started listening to the wind, and I felt it wrap around me as the rain washed over the trees where the birds and monkeys were calling out. Still as I shot I was missing the lightning, but not by as much. Then I directed my focus to the thunder. It wasn’t a booming thunder but when I was calm and was intently listening I could hear it, and by hearing the thunder I was then able to capture the lightning.
Towards the end of this month, I had found myself thinking and dwelling on the possibilities for my future and what I should do, what I should start looking into and where I should move. However, everytime I was missing the “shot”. I needed to calm my over active mind, be filled by Christ’s embrace, set my focus on Him and enjoy where He had me in that moment. And now I need to intently listen to His soft yet powerful voice, and in His perfect timing I will know where He is leading me next.
