After arriving in Thailand we spent the first night in Bangkok at the YWAM base where we received a warm welcome by both the those at the base and the nice hot and humid weather.  After going through our cultural information packets, we were then taken to the bus station in Suntuks to await our 10ish hour bus trip to Chiang Mai.

Below is a view outside YWAM, and to the right of it is Samie and one of the wonderful people at that YWAM base (sorry but I have forgotten her name).

As Part of Pi Emmi’s orientation she sent us on a photo scavenger hunt around Chiang Mai to learn our way around the city and to understand the culture a little better.

Our first Sunday in Chiang Mai after church a number of racers from four of the teams and Mai from Zion went to visit Sticky Falls outside of the city. There we climbed around on the waterfalls for a number of hours and two out of our squad mates were baptized. It was really crazy being able to walk up and down a waterfall without any problem, and was amazing to be there for the two baptisms.

We had a really fun off day riding elephants, playing with a baby elephant, hiking down a waterfall, and bamboo rafting.  I found myself asking multiple times during the day, “Is this really happening?” and Yes it was…. So crazy!!!

There is nothing quite like playing with a baby elephant!

Our last full night in Chiang Mai we got to go send of lanterns with Dok Mai, Mai and Liz from Zion.  Although I wasn’t ready for the month to end, it was a beautiful way for it to come to a close.
