In honor of our neighbors and my many friends of Mexican descent we celebrate their heritage today. I could not be in a better place to honor them, although nearly none of Kenya even has a remote idea of the significance of the day. Simply the Kenyan people cultivate a culture of joy. What I have quickly learned is a gift from God, as it has blessed me immensely; the Kenyan people omit the aroma of a festive spirit. The fruit of the spirit known as joy makes its home here.

I mentioned the holiday to our contact sister Evelyn and her face quickly lit up. The thought of celebrating another culture and enjoying more fellowship together made her excited. The people of Kenya and especially the members of this household choose to eat of the tree of life. They have fun under the promise of our savior Jesus Christ. Gas prices continue to rise (the prices are higher in Kenya than the US) and food is certainly not getting any cheaper, but that does not steal from this special group of peoples joy. No we dance before the Lord and praise him for what we have, and most assuredly for our inheritance to come. It is appalling this idea that a life with Christ is restricting and boring. By no means is this the message of Christ that I read.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they might have life and have it abundantly.”

John 10: 10

And why did we ever allow this idea of restriction to plague the bride of Christ. It is nothing but arthritis to the body. A severe joint pain! Did Christ not come to set us free?!?

“So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.”

James 2: 12

Life with Christ is not intended to restrict our actions, but to annihilate our limitations (what we think to be impossible).

“For all things are possible with God.”

Mark 10: 27

I thank God for the joyful spirit and attitude I have gotten to be a part of in Kenya, and among other people throughout the year. Thank you Lord for initiating me into a group of friends several years ago, who simply enjoy the Lord. They are in love with a God who encourages them to take risks. When they fall flat on their face he is happily there to catch them in his benevolent grace. They have fun in fellowship with the Lord and cling tightly to the promise of life abundantly.

Thank you Jesus for the contagious joy that seeps from the Kenyan community. May each soul whom steps foot on this fertile African soil be blessed in this way. Lord, I also pray today for my brothers and sisters in Mexico. May you grace our neighbors with your presence. Please bless their nation with peace and spiritual treasure. Thank you for the wonderful people you have placed along my path from this nation.

Te quiero mucho mi padre… Amen y Amen.
