Ministry: This month we are partnering up with team Rooted 1930 to assist Tony in his ministry. We will be ministering in 2 different communities:
El Horno is the community closest to where we are living and is the polar opposite of Los Pinos. It is a very poor community, but the people are extremely friendly and thankful for what they have. One of the major differences is the men in this community are involved and want to see change as well. The majority of the community is related to each other in some way. Our ministry here will likely include teaching English and the discipleship of a family God has put on Tony’s heart to be leaders in this community.
Los Pinos is a community crying out for the love of Christ. It is dirt poor similar to El Horno, but the community is completely different. In this community the fathers are nowhere to be found. They do not take interest in seeing the betterment of the community. The people here feel as if they have no hope, because the community has been stuck in this poverty stricken gang infested state for so long. In Los Pinos stealing and acts of violence seem to be the norm, which is a contrast to El Horno where families will share with each other anything they have. Most of the kids do not go to school and have nothing to do during the day. They use paint thinner and other cheap drugs to escape this reality. This area is relatively new for Tony and most people believe it will be impossible to reach with change. We however believe in Tony’s vision and know God is seeking hearts that believe for the impossible for this community.
