After our 1:30 am flight out of LAX we landed in the country of El Salvador. From there we flew into Guatemala City and took a van ride into Antigua, Guatemala.  We stayed at a very nice hostel in Antigua for 3 days.

During the first 2 days we had worship in the morning and night. We were asked to fast internet and iPods for 48 hours to slowly initiate us into the World Race experience. We had meetings scattered throughout the day and were informed of each of our teams’ ministry contacts for the month. We found out that along with us another team would be leaving the country and doing ministry in Honduras for the month (more on this later).

The weather in Antigua was beautiful and the environment was breathtaking. From the city you can see mountains and a volcano. The area felt full of history. Scattered throughout the city were old ruins from where a volcano destroyed it years ago. In our teams we went out and ate at a couple of the local restaurants and they were excellent. A coffee place called the bagel barn quickly became our squad’s favorite location. (Guatemalan coffee is really strong but absolutely delish). In our explorations of the city we went through the market area and got to see most of the local shops.

On the 3rd day of our stay in Guatemala we hiked a volcano. Yes, a volcano! But I suppose that is not completely true because some of the squad rode up on horses. Yes, rode up a volcano on a horse… I will let the photos do the talking on this, but safe to say we all had a wonderful time.

Overall launch in Antigua was a great experience and built up even more anticipation for our first month of ministry.
