I spent a year and a half living alone about a year ago. The wisdom I attained from the experience is note worthy and after much thought I figure I will share. More often than not we might find ourselves alone and unable to reach those already close to our hearts. Perhaps through phone, social media, letters… Whatever method. But I have come to realize God’s will for community unity. I have received knowledge that often amongst the community there are people in grave need for prayer, communication, and love. Before you say to The Lord “I am alone” have you knocked on your neighbors doors and introduced yourself? Do you cheerfully say hello to the neighbors you live amongst when you see them? For six months this year I lived next door to a man who cried alone every weekend after working all week. Until one day he moved out. We would casually talk on the porch and often his friends would come and talk about their experiences as army men, fraternity brothers, and family. But I’ll never forget that weeping and then meeting him out on the porch where his eyes were bloodshot and he was already well on his way to blacking out from drinking… I sat in my paper thin walled apartment and knew the truth about the society we live in… We need to reach out for the sake of the broken hearted. Do not declare you are alone because that statement is a lie. The Lord alone is sufficient… And your neighbors await your introduction.
