November 9th marks 2 months of being in Guatemala. I did this same post last month and wanted to do it again! I re-read through my journal and pulled out my favorite part of each day from month 2 (October 10th-November 9th).

October 10th-November 9th

Today was our last day at the schools because they have summer vacation now. One of the hardest goodbye was to a teacher, Ingrid, in a classroom that I taught. She was teary eyed as we left & told us how much it meant that we came here and how blessed she was to have me in her room- Ingrid is someone I will never forget.

Today I got to Skype Joelle (one of my best friends) and my mom! It was so fun getting to ‘see’ them.

Today my house went to the Cross on the Hill in Antigua for worship before church.

Today Cali’s (our bus driver who lives with us during the week) wife made us fried plantains with mole sauce- it’s an authentic Guatemalan food & quite interesting.

Today we went to the market just to look around & ended up meeting an awesome guy named Raul who worked there- he was full of encouragement and wisdom.

Today we had construction day but it started down pouring at 11:30 so we stopped early.

At 8:30am Rudy (our driver only for vacation) came and picked us up for our vacation.

Today we floated on tubes through a cave filled with bats. To get to the cave we had to hike through a jungle for 30 minutes and it was so beautiful.

Today we went to huge Mayan ruins called Tikal- I got to see many wild spider monkeys and it was SO COOL.

Today we took a boat to the city of Livingston which is on the Caribbean Sea.

Today we loaded up the car and drove most of the day to get back home.

Today we ran a soccer camp on Engadi’s field for kids in zone 18. There was around 30 kids.

Today we did soccer camp until 12 and then went up to the school on the top of the hill to paint the classrooms.

I look forward to seeing my Madeline Estela everyday at soccer camp and I’ll be sad when I can’t see her anymore.

A few other people & I got to go to the lower school and watch our 6th graders graduate. I felt like such a proud mom watching them on stage!

I found my favorite hangout at our home today- the roof. Anna, Jamie & I had lunch up there today and it was beautiful seeing all the mountains around us.

Today we went to a cute restaurant with only 3 tables in the whole place. I got a personal margarita pizza, salad with strawberries & almonds, bananas with chocolate & peach tea all for around $3.

I didn’t wear sunscreen at soccer camp. The only place I got sunburned?? The backs of my knees.

I met a new friend at soccer camp named Lady. She just got her appendix out so she couldn’t play soccer but I sat with her for a while talking with her.

Today Lady made me pinky promise that we would be bestfriends forever. I pray she always feels loved and never feels abandoned or alone.

Today we had one of our ministry helpers over for dinner. It was a night full of pizza pop & cake!!

My favorite part of today was getting to hand out a “diploma of participation” to all the kids for the last day of soccer camp. They were so excited to run up and hug us and get their award.

This morning I woke up at 8am and helped make all the pancakes for our traditional Saturday breakfast.

Today I was home completely alone for the first time since being here. It was way too weird being in a silent house- i’m never going to live alone.

Today was our first day of summer school! We each teach two 30 minute classes each day. The classes are a mix of kids and adults.

Mikaila, Leah & I went to the food market right after school today. One pound of fresh strawberries for less than $1?? Perfect!

Teaching adults has been more of a challenge for me than teaching just kids, but I love having this opportunity!

Today I saw someone walk by carrying cotton candy & jokingly said to Cali that I wanted cotton candy.  He disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a bag of cotton candy he went and bought  for me!!

Today was construction day! After construction when we were walking back to our car, a lady picked passion fruit off of her tree for us to have- so good!!

Cali, his wife, son-in-law, two daughters, and granddaughter came over tonight to celebrate Thanksgiving with my team! It was an evening full of laughter and good food.

Today was a relaxing day started off by going to church then coming home and eating leftover Thanksgiving food for lunch (:
