I feel like I have been spoiled in the Dominican Republic!! I have had two amazing sets of host families who have cooked every single meal for my team!! And let me tell you it’s been really good food! We have had access to the internet whenever we wanted it (though sometimes it was slow). We are driven everywhere. Our first family even washed our clothes for us; and at our second family we have access to a washing machine!! Oh ya and how could I forget that we have running water where I am now! I mean my goodness!
I really feel super spoiled, though it is really nice 🙂 But I know that the conditions are not always going to be like this. Strangely enough, that excites me. Part of my desire is to truly live alongside those we are serving and experience life how they experience it.
Now the areas that we have been working in, as I mentioned last blog, are much poorer. Children who have mothers who are prostitutes, fathers who are never home, and who just don’t know what it’s like to be a carefree child. Yet what makes me even sadder is knowing that they still have it better than other places I will be visiting. (please don’t hear me say that these children are spoiled- I was only referring to my living conditions). Every time we drive to the church to teach guitar, or to teach sports, or to help with construction, or to watch a movie we are swarmed by children. Children with smiles, children who have the opportunity to be carefree for the time that we are with them because we are looking out for them 🙂 It has been so beautiful and I long for those smiles.
*now the plug* My next financial deadline is April 1st and I will need to have 10,000 in my account. Currently, I have $7,516 in my account!! Which is awesome and thank you to those who have so generously given!! I only need $2,400 more in the next two-ish months to be able to continue showing up in children’s lives who need time to just be a child.
