The journey has begun. It’s ridiculously hard to believe that I have only been gone for about a week. It feels like it has already been a month. This last week has been jam packed! It would take me hours to even begin to catch anyone up. Right now I am in Azua in The Dominican Republic and have been here for 4 days, I think – it’s amazing how quickly you can lose track of time when you don’t have a cell phone to check the date or a calendar to look at every day. Before Azua we were in Santo Domingo.
I can’t remember another time that I was sooo excited to finally arrive at my destination. I left my house, in warrenville, around 3pm on Thursday and did not arrive in The Dominican Republic until like 1pm on Friday (in a time zone that is 2 hours ahead of CST)!!
The first few days in santo domnigo were awesome! We had a wonderful time of worship, reacquainting and getting prepared for the trip ahead. My team, Team Deliverance, had some changes over the last two months- we lost two of our teammates and we gained two new ones. It was great to have time to get to know them and spend time in santo domingo with them!!
On Sunday we left Santo Domingo and came to Azua. We have an amazing host family!! It has been very awesome to help them in their ministry here. We have gone and talked to people about Jesus, sang songs in their church, told our testimonies in their churches and gotten to know some amazing people. And this place is swarming with children!!
Some interesting things about The Dominican Republic:
You should NOT flush the toilet paper in the toilet, instead put it in the trash can
They are very hospitable – we are not allowed to do anything around the house and we are always served first
They live in community and the children are raised by the community
They are a very open community. They love to listen to what you have to say.
They make amazing food!!
In a few days we will leave the ministry site we are at and will go to a different location in Azua. Currently, we are anticipated to leave The Dominican Republic on February 2nd and I believe we are headed to Ecuador next, but I am not entirely sure 🙂
