There is tons of work to be done at the Christian Outreach Centre. Literally tons. The first week we were here we helped slaughter pigs and cows so that they could sell the meat and use the money for missions. so literally tons. The trick is to pretend that the unused parts of these animals are just 2 dollar coins lying on the ground rather than bloody entrails. Its a lot easier than it sounds. The church does a lot of this kind of work. They use the farm to fund missions as well as the discount furniture store they own to do the same. No lining of the pockets here! these guys live out of the church basically and run a hostel paid for by the government for aboriginals who need medical attention. The pigs are fed by old vegetables from the market that are going to be thrown out so that more profit from the meat can go into…you guessed it…missions! It is amazing how they have re-purposed everything to directly fund missions. So no matter what job we are doing, because we do it for free we are working for the Kingdom! By shoveling mulch the new buildings can get used. So the rent can go to missions! By feeding the pigs they will eventually get killed and the meat sold for money for missions! Here there are no jobs that are too small or less important than others because the end result is the same. By spreading the word of God you are furthering the Kingdom of God and thereby fulfilling God’s desire. Something tells me that I will experience more and more of this “kingdom thinking” as the year goes on.
