Do you want to know what the will of God is for your life? Of course you do! It's the thing all Christians want to know. Well, you're in luck because I may just be able to shed some light on the mysterious will of God for you 😀
For years I wondered what God's will was for my life. Was I supposed to do this or do that, go here or go there? Maybe you are trying to figure out which college to attend, a career path, where to live, who to marry…it can become very frustrating trying to decipher what God wants you to do!
So what does God want you to do?
There are 3 things in God's general will for every Christian. They can be thought of as prerequisites for finding out God's specific will for your life.
- Sexual Purity
- Being Thankful
- Living Righteously
Where did I come up with these things? The Bible. Check it out:
- For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality – 1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV
- give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
- For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people – 1 Peter 2:15 ESV
If you're not hearing anything from God on your specific question check to see if you are currently following his general will. If you're not, then fix that before expecting an answer.
If you're faithfully following God's general will and still not hearing anything, then you can rest assured that you are doing the will of God as clearly stated in his word 😀
Sometimes we hear God's still small voice telling us something we don't want to hear or do. Ever been in that situation? I've never heard God's voice audibly, but I've had things come to mind that surely weren't from my own brain. For example, I heard "be single" for a while and I didn't want to listen to that ha ha. Especially, because I was currently seeing someone. Well, it didn't go away. I kept hearing it over and over, "be single". I'd pray for God to speak to me and show me what he wanted me to do…the next step. What came to mind? Be single. Dang! God is there something else for you to tell me? I didn't hear anything else till I obeyed the being single part. After I obeyed that I heard something new.
I believe this is how God works with ALL of his children. One step at a time. God speaks, then we must listen and obey. After we do, then God will give us the next step. We can't skip steps no matter how much we don't want to obey what we are hearing. It is for our benefit to obey sooner rather than later!
Do any of you relate to this?
