Dearest Friend,

Thank you. Thank you for loving me, encouraging me, and supporting me. I can never say thank you enough.

Because you encourage me seek the Lord’s, I have confidence in Him.

Because you sit and listen to me, I know I’m not alone.

Because you spend time with me, I see I have value.

Because you put Christ first, I have an example of a man of God.

Because you’ve served me, I know how to love.

Because you’ve taught me truth, I can go proclaim it.

Because you’ve invested in me, I’ve seen miracles.

Because you’ve gone through the lowest valleys, I’ve seen God work.

But friend, most of all, because of you, I am who I am today.

I have no way to ever thank you enough. It would take me lifetimes to repay a fraction of what you’ve done for me. In this moment it’s hard for words, so here are some borrowed ones. This is my promise to you:

“I will love you like God, because of God, mighted by the power of God. I will stop expecting your love, demanding your love, trading for your love, gaming for your love. I will simply love. I am giving myself to you, and tomorrow I will do it again. I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again. God risked Himself on me. I will risk myself on you. And together, we will learn to love, and perhaps then, and only then, understand this gravity that drew Him, unto us.”

– Donald Miller, Blue Like Jazz

Friend, I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know how the Lord will use me, what His plan is, or where I’m going. But, for know, in light of my past experiences, all I can say is thank you.

Love,

David
