Who knew that going out on a race where you lose everything, house, job, comforts would be the place were you get to use your skills for God’s glory. I have been privileged to be able to design some life changing materials that will have an impact that I can only see in eternity. I wish I could show you them, but one thing I can show you is the people I got to work with this time in my journey in the Philippines. The Organization is called Jeepney, named after the Vehicles most prevalent here in the Philippines. The magazine is a street paper that helps support the homeless. The Homeless receive half the income from sales and get to feed themselves and their families, a very worth organization.

Together, me and the staff went on one of the most amazing adventures, a photo shoot to cover a local Filipino tribe on a remote island. Ever since I fell in love with art and photography I have desired to either be in a movie or be part of the group that films movies or to go on a photo shoot. Being this was a magazine we went on a photo shoot. Woo-Hoo! It was so cool! So here goes the staff and a team member from N Squad. Possible first inter squad overnighter. We traveled about 3 1/2 hours to the port and took an hour or so trip across some choppy water to one of the over 700 hundred islands that belong to the Philippines. The photo shoot was going to cover the Mungyan people, a hill tribe that still specialized in making cloths out of wood.

The first thing we did was check into our modest dwelling that had maybe 7 rooms and then we headed out to watch, Federico Garcia, make our dress that would be made out of wood. I talked about much of this in my past blog. So when we made it back, I got the surprise of my lifetime. Bill Shaw, no relation, asked me if I wanted to layout the entire magazine. I was overwhelmed, but of course I said yes, why not, I never did it before, haha. After much wisdom and logistical reasons, I was gracefully allowed to design two spreads for Jeepney.

Cecil And Me doing Design Work

Praise God, I was given the chance to layout my first ever magazine and have it published. I am so blessed that this is happening. The issue should be at my parents in June at my parents house. Working with Deb, and Bill was a challenge as I have not been critiqued before, but it was wonderful to get their impute and experience as I was able to design a better layout and see things from different angles that I never saw before, kinda like this race. Throughout much of this race there have been friends and teammates there to help me grow. Community helps you grow up and be the person God has designed us to be. It is much lacking in todays america. I would like to bring the world race community and bring it home and make it a new and helpful lifestyle that brings growth to everyone for Gods glory. But thats another story for the future that may come to past.

Its a privilege to be able to serve God.
