So let’s talk about David, the king I mean. I’ve read what
the Word has to say about David and I’ve come to some conclusions about his
life. First, David honored like no other. His life was filled with it. Second,
he was humble, which goes hand in hand with the first. Third, David had faith
and courage. Lastly, David was real. So let’s break that down in the reverse
order.
When I say David was real I don’t mean he was a real guy,
history can prove that. What I mean is that he was authentic in his life. He was
real with the people around him and spoke his beliefs even to kings without
fear of rejection or being thwarted or being wrong. He knew who he was and he
didn’t care what others thought of him. He danced like a fool while they
brought the Ark of the Covenant into the City of David, he laughed in the face
of Goliath who mocked the armies of the living God, and he cried out to the
Lord with honest prayers and praises we can still read today in the Psalms.
That is the type of man I would want to associate with and model myself after,
which is great for me since there’s this other guy called Jesus you might have
heard of who took all of those things to the next level and happens to live
inside of me as I am a part of His body on earth. But this is how I have begun
to pray and talk to God. I just get real with Him like the Psalms do. I praise
him continually, but I also voice my thoughts and pains and talk to him like
the friend he’s called me. This has taken me to a new place in understanding
Him and what he thinks of me. I am his and a servant, but my thoughts matter
and he wants my input. Bangarang!! The Lord is waiting for us to act in order
to move.
David kept the faith and even better he had the courage to
follow through. Before every single battle David led he asked the Lord if he
should fight or not. He knew that without the Lord he would absolutely fail.
The battle is the Lords. Now I will never fight a battle like that, but I am
part of a greater battle warring against the principalities of darkness in the
heavenly realms. If I trust in the Lord and know that the battle is His and
has already been won on account of the resurrection, then why should I fear. My
faith hasn’t been tested to the ultimate point of death, but I believe that if
I am filled with the life of Christ and unafraid of death, then nothing in this
world can stop me. “Courage is peace in the storm, the inability to be alarmed
by the enemy.” (The Supernatural Ways of Royalty) I mean really. How can you
threaten a believer with death. That’s just a promotion! I need to live this
life fully. There is no other option. The Father spits out the lukewarm.
King David was humble. How can a king be humble when
he has to rule? Well a lot of people including me until recently have a misunderstanding
of what is means to be humble. Yes we are called to put others before ourselves
and to think better of them, but that doesn’t mean we are supposed to think less
of ourselves. True humility isn’t thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of
ourselves less. David never thought he wasn’t fit to be king or good enough for
God’s purposes, but he did humble himself. For example, David had already been
anointed as king over Israel and was filled with the Spirit, but Saul was still
the reigning king. Later as David grew up under Saul he twice was given the
opportunity to kill Saul who had been trying to kill him, but chose not to as
the Lord had chosen Saul to begin with. David humbled himself and thought more
of God and His previous decision to choose Saul than to take matters into his
own hands and end the torment of Saul chasing after him. Which is also an
example of how David honored the Lord and Saul.
David was all about honor. Everything he did he did with
honor towards other men and towards God. God honored David because David
honored Him and Saul first. I have tried to live a life of honor up until this point
because it was engrained in me as a kid from my parents. I’ve failed a lot.
I’ve also gotten it right a lot, but I’m starting to see how honor is used to
advance the kingdom. Through honoring people and bringing out the best in them
we show them worth. When people start to realize they have worth in your eyes
they begin to respect you. This is the same way we come to Christ. We want to
know more about Him because we find worth in Him. It’s time to take this honor
thing to a new level.
That’s about what I’ve come to understand about David. Lucky
for me there’s also a book I’m reading along with the Word this month called
The Supernatural Ways of Royalty, which I quoted earlier. It’s an awesome read
and I advise checking it out, unless of course you don’t want God to talk to
you about being a prince or princess and seizing control of the authority given
to us through Christ. I only kid, but the revelation given to the author is
striking.
Whenever I read about stories of heartache my heart is moved
to tears and whenever I read stories of the power of God being unleashed or
courage of the saints my spirit groans for that experience. I know the Lord
wants me to walk in newness and in power. Jesus never expected his disciples to
every walk in meekness, but to call on the power of the living God and show the
world the enemy is fake and feeble in the presence of the Lord. I love the
Lord, that is my battle cry!
