Names are important. A name is the title given something or someone in which their whole essence is contained. I have heard it said that a person’s favorite word is always his/her name.
My name, given me by my parents on August 31, 1987 is Darek. Unknown to my parents at the time, my name is a Germanic derivation of the old English name Theoderic which me means “Ruler of the People.” While my parents did not purpose such a meaning in naming me, I have taken to heart this deeper meaning of my name and have sought to live it out.
This may make me sound like I am seeking might and power, but I take it to be just the opposite since I strive to follow the example of my ruler, Jesus Christ, who set the example that true leadership is done through servanthood.
My desire is to be a loving servant of all peoples in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord. I am joining the World Race as an opportunity to both serve and also to more fully determine how I can continue to serve in the years ahead.
