Ecclesiastes 9:10
What and Why. It's good to have you guys here. This blog is the manifestation of almost two incredible years of God's sanctifying work and my response; to give up everything and join Him in the work He's already doing out on the missions field. It was clear to me when God bought my life as His own that there would be a lot of changes with the way I was living and the direction my life was heading. But even then, if you'd have told me a year and a half ago I would pursue being a full time missionary, I'd have pooped my pants.
And now I'm here, having just graduated, preparing to chase the Lord in this 11 month journey to 11 different countries, sacrificing security, comfort, and career for the sake of something bigger than myself. We'll be sent in teams of 6 or 7 to existing ministries in need of some extra hands and feet, joining them in the work they're already doing to further secure God's Kingdom in this earth. Every month we'll change location, we'll change ministry focus, and we'll change leadership hands, to expose ourselves to every facet of Christian community and service, filling in the holes at ministries ranging from working with orphans to women caught in sex-trafficking to preparing sermons to building a well. And all this because Jesus first loved us, and
because we strongly believe that the Kingdom is already at hand; to create one unified race of believers around the world, to His glory.
Logistics. I'll update this blog regularly out in the field, so please Subscribe for Email Updates in the menu on the left. This is the best way to stay in touch. By adding your email there you can stay connected without having to continually check back, as you'll get an email every time I post. Please do this. And if you ever feel like reconnecting (it would be so nice to hear from you) please feel free to leave comments, or use the Contact link in the menu.
Support. As independent as I try to be, I can't do this alone. Your continued prayer and encouragement over the course of the year will be a huge part of our ministry. I'll regularly keep this blog updated with the work we're doing, the work God's doing, and how best we could use prayer. Also, financial support is huge, which I'm currently working on collecting. Like many a missionary before me, the work we do relies on the prayerfully considered financial support of those I've connected with back home, and those God's put on their heart to partner with me in the work He'll be doing.
As such, I need to raise $15,500 by January. This amount will go to training camp, food and lodging for an entire year, local transportation and intercontinental travel. Leaving in September though, we're able to leave without being fully supported. However, having had to raise support from out of the country before, that's not something I want to be doing a second time. With this in mind, I hope to be fully supported by September 1st. Broken down, I currently have around $7000 in my account, with amounts pledged for another few thousands dollars on top of that. So there is still a significant amount left to go.
God's been incredibly faithful so far in making it very clear that I'm meant to do this, and I have full faith that He will continue to be faithful. But like I said, I can't do this on my own. If you feel led to support me in any way, either monthly or with a one-time gift, the best way to do so is here, online. Use the link in the menu on the left, Financially Support Me to donate. This will take you to a page where you can easily donate electronically both monthly and one-time. Change the 'program' from 'Staff Support' to 'Support a World Racer', and keep the participant name at 'For Danny Weiss'. Primarily I'm looking for people to partner with me monthly – this is more traditional and is the easiest for all of us. But if you are unable to do so and still feel led to support (I know I have a lot of friends still in school or without jobs), I'm still very much in need of your help. One time donations are still totally fine, and much needed. And also don't hesitate to contact me using the link, or at [email protected] if you feel interested at all in supporting me, or if you'd rather not support me electronically. I can tell you more about what I'm doing, where I'm at with it, and how you can still contribute.
The Route. I'm on September Route 3 if you've poked around theworldrace.org home page, or what will be known as K SQUAD. I won't know exactly where I'll be or what work I'll be doing in each country until right before we arrive. Nor will I know my team of six until after training camp in late July. But I do know the countries we'll be going to and in what order we'll be going to them, although this is subject to change for a number of possible reasons.
Australia > Malaysia > Vietnam > Cambodia > India > Nepal > Tanzania > Rwanda > Kenya > Ukraine > Romania
Most of all I just can't tell you how excited I am, how anxious I am to see God at work and be a part of it, to meet all these incredible people and be a part of their story, as well as bring their stories back home with me. This is just the start of an incredible journey, and since you're here, I can't thank you enough for being a part of it.
Love,
Danny
