Some of the best things happen when they aren't on your radar.

Our designated ministry contact is at Rosa de Amor.

But Christ's call to love others knows no boundaries.

Right on the other side of the concrete wall lined with razor wire along the top are tin houses. There are two families living there, eleven people total. We have seen some of the kids climb the tree and look over the fence to see what we were up to.

On a few occasions, Dave had bought some muffins or a bundt cake and given it to kids to share amongst themselves and their families. And then we took it a step further. One day when we bought firewood from the family, two of the girls, Delia and Maria, walked with us down the road to show us where there was more firewood. We needed to bring some back for the outdoor stove to make tortillas. While walking with the girls, we asked what their favorite food was. And they both said pizza. So, Dave and I decided that we would buy the family some Domino's pizza. It was perfect since they had a 2×1 special. Later on we went to visit them and asked what time they eat dinner and told them not to cook anything that evening because we wanted to buy the families some pizza.

When we left, the kids were all hugs and didn't want to let go.

It was fantastic because Delia's mother told us that it was perfect since it was Delia's 12th birthday that day. So later on in the evening, we went to Domino's and ordered four large pizzas for the family. Having worked at a bakery for almost six years, I wanted to get this little girl a birthday cake. So I found a black forest cake at the grocery store next door. I don't think I have ever been so excited to buy a birthday cake in my entire life. Just the thought of knowing how happy Delia would be to get pizza AND an unexpected birthday cake blessed me so much. It has probably been the best spent money for the month.

When we brought the pizza, we came in through the rusty gates and set the pizzas down on a table the family had brought outside. The only lighting we had was from a fluorescent light inside the tin shacks. So we served pizza and cake in the dark after praying with the families.

The pizzas and cake were all gone in less than half an hour.

This experience humbled me. There's so much that I have been blessed with, and to be able to bless others amazes me.

It's only by God's grace that I am alive for another day.

And I want to keep using each day to bring glory to the one who gives me life.
