The Foster Children At Nadaam

After a 30+ hour train journey and a 7 hour bus ride we made it to KharKhorin, a country side in Mongolia. My squad is the first group for Adventure in Missions to travel to Mongolia. I was not sure what to expect but I was excited to be pioneers here. We were assigned a ministry I had been hoping for all race, working with a foster home. My team and I lived in a traditional Mongolian yurt in the middle of nowhere. We were surrounded by rolling hills and God’s beautiful creation. We arrived right in time for Naadam, Mongolia’s national holiday. We played with beautiful babies and children all day. We also helped build a green house and garden. Although our ministry was what I had hoped for, we quickly learned that being pioneers wasn’t always smooth sailing. There was a complete disconnect between us and the family we were working with. Our translator was a boy from the orphanage who barely spoke English. Many things were miscommunicated or not communicated at all. There was a constant state of confusion. Due to several misunderstandings we had to pack up our things and head back to Ulaanbaatar.
I was immediately filled with sadness followed by guilt. After a day of processing God removed the guilt from me. I know my team is filled with wonderful people with incredible hearts. We loved and poured ourselves into the children at the foster home. Hatnaa and Zula, the family we had been working with are absolutely amazing people and the love they have for their community is beautiful! We all did all we could but unfortunately it wasn’t the right place for us. God knew we would only be there for a short time and He still decided to bring us there. I have faith that through our love and our prayers God planted seeds in KharKhorin.
I was sad to go but God definitely had a purpose for us leaving. We are now located a little bit outside of the city working with a pastor named Bolgie and his family. Bolgie is one of the hardest if not the hardest workers I have ever met. He is currently building three churches by himself, he often works all day and all through the night. His heart to serve the Lord is absolutely amazing. His family is wonderful and we immediately bonded with them. We have been working long days helping with one of the churches. Although I am no longer in my “dream ministry” with the little children I know we are exactly where we are supposed to be. I am so thankful for the opportunity to come alongside of such wonderful people and help carry out their dream. After all, God works everything out for good.
