Jesus first instructs us to be poor in spirit. This means to put away your pride and personal independence. Don’t be self-centered. Instead, we should humble ourselves. Submit yourself to God. Recognize that you do not have full authority, but he does. Realize that he created the world and everything in it. Understand that he in control of everything. Give him credit where credit is due. Turn to him in times of trouble. Then, yield to his authority and will. Have faith that he only wants the best for you. Also, humble yourself by recognizing that your worth comes from God alone. All of your talents and abilities are gifts from him. Without him, you can do nothing. With him, you can move mountains. Realize that your power and strength is not your own. God will bless those who humble themselves before him. Stop focusing on yourself when God is so much bigger than you. Realign your thoughts to him and seek ways to serve him.
