22. Jesus turns water into wine

–  John 2:1-12

John 2:1-2 “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.”

Jesus had the greatest mission of all. He came to save the world. He came to the earth so that he may be the final sacrifice. Yet, Jesus still took the time to attend a wedding. Sometimes we get so focused on our “work” that we don’t take time to enjoy life’s festivities. In the case of Jesus, his attendance at the wedding helped the disciples put their faith in him. More so, it was a location where a lot of people gathered and Jesus values being surrounded by people. Don’t become so secluded with your “work” that you miss what is around you. God uses the fun times to bring him glory too. Be eager to spend time with others in celebration. Take Jesus’ example and value everyone around you. They deserve to be valued. Everyone you come in contact with, love and encourage them without reservations no matter what.

John 2:3 “When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, ‘They have no more wine.”

At this point, Mary’s husband, Joseph, had most likely passed away. It was common for Mary to turn to Jesus for help. She probably didn’t except Jesus to do a miracle; she probably just wanted him to help and trusted him to do what was right.

John 2:4 “Dear woman, why do you involve me?’ Jesus replied. ‘My time has not yet come.”

It is good to turn to God whenever you need help. But, you must be comfortable with accepting his answer even if you do not like it. Sometimes God has a bigger plan in mind. Jesus didn’t want to initially intervene in the wedding because he came to the earth to do greater things than changing water into wine. Still, he decided to help Mary. When you ask, you will receive. Still, God is capable of anything and can open doors where we don’t believe doors exist. Jesus turned water into wine. That is unimaginable. Mary didn’t know exactly how Jesus would help but she trusted that he would help. Be like Mary. When you don’t see God working immediately have faith that he heard you and is working in a way that you do not see.

John 2:10 “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

People often think that God is dull and boring. They fall victim to the false advertisements of sins. The devil tricks people into thinking sinning is fun and exciting. We try to look for excitement and meaning in everything except God. We think God is a man in the sky full of rules. But, that isn’t the case at all. God has a way of turning the dull into magnificent creations. Just take a look at yourself; God formed you out of dust. He transforms all things to be the best that they can be. Even when Jesus created wine, he created the best wine the world has ever tasted. Why save the best for last? Why try everything first before coming to God? Next time, try God first.
