Have you ever thought or visioned God as an author? I just finished reading A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller, where he talks about writing your own story. But it triggered something in me to look at God as author of the universe.

God carefully took the time to plan and write out everyone's story. Beginning to end. Chapter by chapter. Even if he knew you would rebel and sin, he still took the time to write out every single detail. And then after he finishes writing your book, which happened before you were even born, he carefully places it on his giant bookshelf. Probably right in between his book on creating the universe, and his book on everlasting love.

Then, when it comes time for your human life to begin, he goes and pulls your book off the shelf. He sits back in his big comfy recliner, overlooking a sunset, with a tall glass of lemonade, so excited to smell the fresh, new pages of your book. But he doesn't just peruse through the pages, only taking the time to read your story when it's convenient for him. He carefully and excitedly follows along with every single page.

And just think how big God is that he not only takes the time for you and your details, but for every single one of his treasured children. He knows exactly what's going to happen but still follows along like he's living your story right with you. He cries when you try to ride your bike for the first time and end up in your neighbor's fence. He laughs right there with you when you ride your first roller coaster and can't stop smiling. He sings for joy when you get to experience your first child, and holding that precious little life in your arms.

He knows our individual life stories like the back of his hand, but yet we hardly acknowledge him for it. If he knows exactly what's going to happen, why don't we go to him more often in life? He wants to help us when we don't know what college to go to, or if we should accept that job offer on the other side of the world. He knows what's best for us because he's already planned out every single detail. So run to him when life gets hard, ask him for help, and most importantly, thank him everyday for taking the time to write your beautiful story of a life.
